Brett Bonvechio

Hitting & Catching Instructor
  • Junior College All-American
  • Drafted in the 37th Rd by the Boston Red Sox
  • Played 10 years professionally with the Red Sox, San Diego Padres, and Chicago White Sox

 Brett was born and raised in the Bay Area attending Prospect High School graduating in 2000. While at Prospect, he played four years of varsity baseball, moving on to West Valley College. In 2001, Brett spent one year at West Valley as a third baseman going on to be named Most Valuable Player of the Coast Conference and Most Valuable Offensive Player in California. Also in 2001, he was also named a Junior College All-American and drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the Major League Baseball Draft. Since then, Brett has played 10 years of professional baseball with organizations like the San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox, reaching as high as Double-A. With his unrivaled level of professional experience and passion for the game, South Bay Sports Training and Kali Baseball are proud to have Brett working with our youth, high school players and prospects.

Greg Mugg

Hitting & Fielding Instructor
  • Outfielder at San Jose State University
  • Coached several players who received Division I scholarships
  • Coaches a collegiate summer baseball program


 Greg started his collegiate baseball career at Ohlone College, earning 1st Team All-Conference as a freshman and again as a sophomore at Laney College. He later transferred to San Jose State University on a baseball scholarship. After finishing up his college career, Greg began working individually with high school hitters, many of which have gone on to play college and professional baseball. He also currently coaches a Collegiate Summer team (Fontanetti’s). South Bay Sports Training and Kali Baseball are proud to have Greg onboard as an individual instructor and High School Program coach.

Andrew Simon (Director of Youth Programs)

Hitting, Fielding, & Sports Performance Instructor
  • Played or coached on 4 CCS championship teams
  • Attended University of Mary as an outfielder
  • Head Coach at King’s Academy

Andrew played his high school baseball at Valley Christian High School in San Jose where he currently resides. While playing at Valley Christian, he won two CCS championships under Coach John Diatte. Andrew played at San Jose City College and moving on the University of Mary on a baseball scholarship. After his playing career, Andrew went back to Valley Christian to coach. During his coaching stint at VC he won two more CCS championships with the Warriors. He is now currently the Head Coach at King’s Academy in Sunnyvale. 


Mike Codiroli

Pitching & Hitting Instructor
  • Played at Archbishop Mitty High School (Inducted into Archbishop Mitty’s Hall of Fame)
  • Graduated from Stanford University (1979), 2-Time All Pac-10 for Stanford University
  • Member of the USA baseball team (1978-79)
  • Drafted by the Seattle Mariners. 
 Mike Codiroli played his high school baseball in San Jose at Archbishop Mitty High School.  In 2000, Mike was  inducted into the Archbishop Mitty Athletic Hall of Fame.  After high school, Codiroli received a baseball scholarship to play outfield and pitch at Stanford University where he is still the All-Time leader in triples and in the Top 10 for stolen bases.  After his career at Stanford, Mike was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the Major League Baseball draft.  Mike went on to play 4 seasons with the Mariner organization, South Bay Sports Training in is proud to have Mike onboard as an individual instructor and coach of our travel teams.

Jason Codiroli

Hitting & Fielding Instructor
  • Played at Archbishop Mitty High School, CCS Player of the Year
  • Cal Hi Sports Bay Area Player of the Year, Member of the 16U USA National Team
  • 2-Time JUCO All American for West Valley College
  • Drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2008

 Jason Codiroli was born and raised in San Jose, CA.  Jason attended Archbishop Mitty High School where he was a four-year varsity player.  His senior season, Codiroli was named Mercury News CCS Player of the Year and Cal Hi Sports Bay Areas Player of the Year.  He was also a member of USA Baseball’s 16U National Team.   After Mitty, Jason played at West Valley College and was a 2-Time Junior College All-American.  In 2008, Jason was drafted in the 20th Round by the San Diego Padres going on to play 6 years of professional baseball.  South Bay Sports Training is pleased to have Jason as an individual instructor and coach for our travel teams.

Kyle Bonvechio

Hitting Instructor
  • Started for two years at San Jose City College
  • Played baseball on scholarship at Cal State University- Stanislaus
  • Coached at Santa Clara High School and went on to Head Assistant at Homestead High School 

 Kyle Bonvechio was born and raised in San Jose, CA. Kyle attended Prospect High School in Saratoga, CA playing infield and leading the team in hitting. He transferred to San Jose City College where he started for two years. After his career at SJCC, Kyle accepted an athletic scholarship to play baseball at Cal State University-Stanislaus. After college, Bonvechio received a coaching position at Santa Clara High School before later taking the Head Assistant position at Homestead High School. Trosky Baseball and South Bay Sports Training is pleased to have Kyle working with its youth and high school players.


John Diatte

Fielding, Hitting & Pitching Instructor
  • Baseball Coaches Association District 8 Coach of the Year: 2003 and 2008. (Dist. 8: Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California and Hawaii.)
  • Cal Hi Sports State Coach of the Year: 1998 and 2007
  • Northern California Coach of the Year: 2008
  • CCS Coach of the Year: 1998 and 2002.

 John Diatte: Head Baseball Coach Valley Christian High School
1990-Present Record: 432-154-5

Coach Diatte is in 22st year at the helm of the Valley Christian baseball program. A 1984 graduate of Valley Christian High School, Coach Diatte was a 4-year letterman on the Varsity Baseball team and started on the first three Varsity Football teams. Coach began his career as the Head JV football coach in the fall of 1984 and coached football for eight seasons including 7 at the varsity level. Under Coach Diatte watch the Warriors baseball program has won 11 league titles and 5 Central Coast Section Championship. Over the past ten years the Warriors have played in six CCS Championships and have compiled a 28-6 Play-off record. His teams have a reputation for playing hard-nosed mistake free baseball. USA Today ranked the 2008 Warrior team as high as 4th in the Nation.

When Coach Diatte took over the program he was face with ten jerseys and five pairs of pants. Since that time Diatte has built a program with all of the modern training equipment, lockers full of uniforms, the stadium at Branham and the state of the art facility the Warriors now play in.

Coach Diatte is most proud of his integration of Biblical principles and life lesson into his program. He is also on the board of “Meeting God in Baseball”. MGB is a biblical and evangelical Missions group working to educated and serve youth coaches in the Dominican Republic. He also enjoys speaking in chapels and sharing at coach’s conferences.

Twenty-five of Coach Diatte’s players have gone on to play at four-year schools. Twelve pitchers have received DI Scholarships and his last five Short Stops have won scholarships. Jonathan Hughes (’08) and Dustin Realini (’02) both received the honor of High School All-American. Hughes (’08) and Casey Neale (’01) were both named Central Coast Section Player of the Year. Kevin Miller (’07) went on to become a Freshman All-American at Cal. Mike Rouse (’98) stared at Cal State Fullerton where he played in the College World Series. Mike was also a fourth round draft choice of the Toronto Bluejays and later to made his Major League début in Yankee Stadium while with the Oakland A’s.

Coach Diatte spent one year at Liberty University before earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Performance from San Jose State University.

Family: Daughter Brittany 14 and Son Joey 11. Father John Diatte Sr. rarely misses a Warrior game.

Valley Christian HS Team Achievements:
Ranked 10th in the Nation: 2008 Ranked 13th in the Nation: 2007Ranked Number 1 in North California by Cal Hi Sports: 2007 and 2008. Ranked Number 1 in Division IV by Cal Hi Sports: 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2002. Ranked Number 1 in CCS: 2002, 2007 and 2008. CCS Championships: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2008. League Championship: 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2008.
